INSTSUITE-2248 : [space service] Installer does not calculate free disk space correctly

Defect #: INSTSUITE-2248
Previous IDWIND00342253
Found In Version2.4
Fix Version2.5
Severity:Standard
Status:Fixed
Created Date:03/27/2012
Component/s :Suite Installer
Required RPM Updates:Suite Installer

Description

The installer apparently determines the size of the disk and the amount of disk space used and displays the difference as the amount of free disk space. Although this seems perfectly reasonable, it turns out not to be correct. In reality, the amount of available disk space may be significantly smaller, by multiple GiB.

For example, the attached screen shot shows the installer reporting 6.59 GiB of free space, whereas the df command reports only 2.8 GiB available, a difference of 3.8 GiB. When the installation was attempted, it failed when the available disk space, as reported by df, fell to zero.

Workaround

1. Run your OS's disk space checking utility on the volume on which you plan to install:

df -h /home/revo

2. Launch the installer.

3. Compare the available space listed under "Avail" to the size of the installation, as reported by the installer; ignore the installer's report of the amount of free space.

Steps to Reproduce

1.) Launch the installer and compare the free disk space shown to the available disk space reported by the OS, as described under the Workaround.
